It Takes Two to Talk® — The Hanen Program® for Parents of Children with Language Delays

The Hanen It Takes Two to Talk® online program is an education program for parents of children [0 – 5 years] who have language delays.

Details of the It Takes Two to Talk® Program

You spend more time with your child than any professional – that makes you the expert on your child. The Hanen Center®’s It Takes Two to Talk® Program provides parents with tools to help their children develop stronger communication skills.

Kayla Brown, MS, CCC-SLP, is a Hanen-certified Speech Language Pathologist who offers the It Takes Two to Talk® Program online through interactive video conference calls for parents in the states in which she’s licensed: Georgia and North Carolina.

What will the program cover?

  • Your child’s stage and style of communication.
  • How you can identify and create motivation for your child to communicate with others.
  • How you can engage your child in back-and-forth conversations, even when they are not yet speaking.
  • How you can use everyday activities to enhance your child’s language learning.
  • How you can talk to your child so that they understand you and have the best opportunity to learn new words and ideas.
  • How you can respond to your child in a way that helps them to learn a new language and express their feelings, needs, and interests.

What does the program include?

Our 12-week-long program includes the following:

  • Eight training sessions for parents in small, personalized groups. You will have the opportunity to meet and talk with other parents whose children also have a language delay.
  • A Hanen Certified speech-language pathologist leading the program
  • A pre-program consultation for you and your child with the speech-language pathologist
  • Three individual video-based consultations with the visits for you and your child with the speech-language pathologist, during which you will review the videotaped interaction to see what’s helping your child and what you can modify to help even more.

Why is the program beneficial?

The It Takes Two to Talk Program shows you how to use your natural, day-to-day life with your child to help him develop language skills. You’ll discover simple things you can do during everyday activities like meal time, storytime, and bath time to create enjoyable learning opportunities for your child.

It Takes Two to Talk translates the research on early language intervention into concrete strategies that are easy for parents to understand and put into practice. The program offers you many opportunities to practice and discuss each strategy you learn so that you’ll be comfortable and confident using them at home.

The chance to connect with other parents.

One of the greatest benefits of the It Takes Two to Talk Program is the opportunity it provides to connect with other parents in similar situations. You’ll have the chance to meet people who really understand what you’re feeling and gain valuable insight by listening to their own experiences using It Takes Two to Talk strategies with their child.
